Never did I think I'd photograph another book

My project, The Secret Books, was a landmark, a big shift for me. And I haven't thought to work with books again. Nevertheless, this image popped into my mind. And I think there is another forming right behind it. We'll see.

Thought provoking..... some serious symbolism regarding your feelings on doing another book.

Salaam Sean,

Only yesterday i was giving my students a lecture on working from the heart when doing things photographically. These days they are learning and working on how to personalize images in there portfolios.Out of the three photographers whose work I did a show and tell ... you were the first one with The Secret Books ... so my message my dear old friend good luck with the new one I know it will be something to look forward to.

Having just returned from India, I find this striking image heavily metaphoric. It speaks of freedom and confinement, violence and purification. The colors of sky and earth add to the dichotomy. It is very personal, emotional, but also speaks of the human condition. I could write a whole essay on it. A real winner!!

If you google book burning, Wikipedia returns this extremely long list of historic book burnings:

Your very powerful image is a beautiful, and tragic, reminder that knowledge, truth and learning are sacred, yet are denied to many, and destroyed by those that fear enlightenment.
